Much of the Torah world today knows very little about the small, yet growing, close-knit Jewish community in Amsterdam. Less so, that it runs a full day Kollel for a group of serious Avreichim who are dedicated to advancing their learning and are passionate about the beautiful Jewish community in Amsterdam.

Around 40 years ago, in 1975, Rav L.P. Rosenzweig שליט’’א envisioned a thriving Jewish community in Amsterdam and believed it was vital to establish a true mokom Torah through a Kollel. Together with Hechover Mr. Moshe Yehudah Magnus ז"ל, who offered his full support and financial backing to the initiative, and Hechover Mr. Nechemya Roosen ז"ל—their resolve was untouched by the challenges they faced.
After extensive time and energy was invested in the project, Rav Rosensweig, Mr. Magnus & Mr. Roosen saw their efforts bore fruit. The Kollel they established was a community Kollel, where the Avreichim were involved in answering sheilos, visiting the Jewish old-age home, and arranging communal events, thus winning over the hearts of the wider community.
Their Kollel essentially laid the foundations for our current kollel, which was reinstated in 2017, and is now led by Rav Yaakov Ball. It is the only Torah institution of its kind in the Netherlands and is responsible for upholding the pillar of ruchniyus for the entire country.

The Netherlands has more than 37,000 Jews, many of whom have had little or no exposure to Torah-Judaism. The Kollel has established special opportunity tracks, known as the Mesilah, where Avreichem have the opportunity to gain practical leadership and community engagement skills that have a unique impact on Jews throughout the country.
When Torah speaks for itself, nothing else matters. Our incredible group of Avreichim are serious and driven young men who are focused on advancing their learning first, whilst creating an inspiring ripple effect for others. "כל ישראל ערבים" - With that deep sense of responsibility, they are driven to grow in learning and make an impact on those around them.
